What is image metadata?

Besides the picture itself, an image file can store technical details: the camera make and model, exposure settings, the date the photo was taken, the software that edited it, and sometimes a GPS location. Cameras and phones write this EXIF block into JPG files automatically.

Why check it?

  • Confirm the exact resolution and aspect ratio before uploading somewhere with strict requirements.
  • See whether a photo still carries camera or personal information before sharing it publicly.
  • Recover the original shooting date and camera settings of a photo.

Is my image uploaded to a server?

No. The file is read and parsed entirely in your browser, so it never leaves your device.

Why is no EXIF data shown?

EXIF is normally only present in JPG files straight from a camera or phone. Screenshots, PNG and WebP files and images processed by social networks usually have none.

Can I see the GPS location?

This viewer shows common camera and date fields. If a location matters to you, treat any camera-original JPG as potentially containing one and strip it before sharing.

How do I remove this information?
